New participants are required to successfully complete a swim test an official Tryout (at one of our LA County Pool facilities), in order to register for the Junior Lake Lifeguard Program.

WHAT IS THE TRYOUT SWIM?

REQUIREMENTS:
(3) SWIM TEST MODULES:(Same for all ages 9-17)

WHO NEEDS TO TRYOUT?
Once participants pass a SWIM TRYOUT SUCCESSFULLY, they will be eligible to register for the Junior Lake Lifeguard Program.
🔹 New Junior Guard participants are required to pass the TRYOUT swim test before they can register for the program.
🔹 Returning JGs (who took a year off) are not considered returning and must re-test.
🔹 Returners who participated in Summer 2025, are NOT required to Tryout and will be able to Register without this requirement.
🔹 Participants who passed a Tryout last year in 2025, but DID NOT attend the actual Junior Lifeguard Program Session (at one of the 3 lakes), will need to re-test at a 2026 Swim Tryout, to become eligible to Register for the 2026 summer program.
**This swim test is a safety standard, and there are no exceptions.**

eligibility:
To be eligible for participation in the JG Tryout, your child just needs to meet the age requirements for the UPCOMING SUMMER JG program (ages 9-17 as of first day of the attended session in June or July)
what to bring:
Remember to bring a towel, water bottle, swim cap and goggles, and have your participant in their swimsuit ready to go!
